The majority of gymnastics gyms start classes when children are able to walk on their own but some start even younger. Most accommodate up to age 18 and offer a wide variety of classes for age and level. Regardless the class your child is going to learn more than gymnastics. Each gym has different goals, so make sure you do your research before signing up! At Gym-Nest we strive to develop happy, healthy, responsible kids through our programs. All of these life skills are taught physically and mentally, here’s how:
Physical Developmental Skills:
Fine Motor Skills are movements using the wrists, fingers, and toes.
• Spinning a hula hoop
• Picking up a beanbag and balancing it on head
• Touching toes to prop on the bar
Gross Motor Skills are movements using the arms, legs, torso, and feet.
• Wheelbarrow walk
• Balance on booty
Flexibility is the range of movement in the joint or series of joints.
• Toe touch
Strength is learned both physically and mentally.
• Squat jumps
• Positive thoughts
• Visualization techniques
Mental Developmental Skills:
Problem Solving Skills help children compare, contrast, evaluate, and select.
• Around or through an obstacle
• Step on or over
Socialization Skills are how we communicate and interact with one another.
• Coaches direct
• Students ask questions
• Interacting with other students in class
Listening Skills help children interpret messages.
• How teacher and student interpret what the other is saying
