As you are aware yesterday, we made the difficult decision of cancelling all British Gymnastics national events, including the FIG World Cup and the Artistic British Championships, up until the end of June.
Last night, the UK Government also announced further social distancing measures and instructed people to avoid social contact and gatherings where possible and avoid non-essential travel. We understand that, for our clubs, this advice will have a considerable effect on classes and training. During this difficult time we, as the National Governing Body, advise that you review the guidance and measures that have been introduced by the Government and carry out your own risk assessment to come to a decision on how you can continue to operate your club. Some clubs may also be affected by other circumstances such as leisure centre and venue closures. In addition, some clubs have already made the difficult decision to close temporarily.
This evening the UK Government has issued a string of new financial measures that may assist clubs in the future and British Gymnastics will be examining these measures with the view of assisting clubs to understand how they can be accessed.
This is a very uncertain time for all of us and we will endeavour to support you as much as we possibly can. Our team will be working on providing materials and further guidance to help all member clubs so that you can continue to stay informed and connected with your members.
We have made a further decision to suspend all sanctioned national gymnastics activities including education courses, squad training sessions, workshops and conferences until the end of June. Separate measures have been put in place to support our athletes striving for Olympic selection.
British Gymnastics are following Government guidelines and have adopted the approach of working from home, whilst maintaining all business as usual activities. We can be contacted in all the usual ways and we will continue to issue communications in line with the latest guidance from the Government and Public Health England.
As issued in all guidance, we encourage you to continue practising good hand hygiene and to be aware of the symptoms of the virus.
On behalf of everybody at British Gymnastics, please take care and let’s work together to minimise the impact of this pandemic on the sport we love.
